As any economist or econ text book or business owner can tell you, taxes are an expense like any other and in todays competitive times profit margins are slim.
If taxes go up, prices go up. It is simple math that if you raise taxes on a small business their prices will have to go up to cover the tax.
This is why businesses never actually pay taxes they either pass the tax on to you, or lower the cost of production like move production to China or Mexico.
