Tax Dodging is Wrong, Legal Tax Avoidance is the American Way

Unless of course you are a company like GE who has the connections to get special exemptions for themselves in the tax code.

That exception aside, no one should pay more than the law says that they should, or as my teenage daughter might say “no duhhh”. There is nothing wrong with taking deductions that are written into the law.

As so many have heard, Donald Trump’s 1995 Tax Returns were illegally leaked and it shows that he paid very little tax that year because he was recovering from recent losses, which are deductible. Hillary Clinton and even the New York Times used those same deductions in their own taxes.

Breitbart News:

Hillary Clinton used the same exact method as Donald Trump to pay less tax, according to her own tax returns released by her presidential campaign.

Donald Trump reportedly avoided paying federal income taxes by reporting massive losses on his 1995 tax return, which the New York Times somehow obtained before Trump himself released it.

The Wall Street Journal describes the loophole that Trump used:

The tax treatment of losses, bound to become a subject of national debate, is a typically noncontroversial feature of the income-tax system. The government doesn’t pay net refunds when business owners lose money, but it lets taxpayers use those losses to smooth their tax payments as they make money. That reflects the fact that “the natural business cycle of a taxpayer may exceed 12 months,” according to a congressional report.

Typically, for federal returns, such net operating losses can be carried backward for two years to offset past income and then kept on a taxpayer’s books for 20 years, though Mr. Trump’s losses could only qualify for a 15-year carryforward under the law at the time.

The Clinton campaign has hammered Trump on his unreleased tax returns. When pundits on cable news now refer to the “Taxes” issue, they’re usually talking about Trump’s personal “taxes” issue, not the taxes paid by American voters.

But the Zerohedge blog first noticed something that could undercut Clinton’s ability to hit Trump on his “net operating losses.”

Clinton’s 2015 tax returns reveal that Hillary Clinton also reported capital gains losses in order to lessen her tax burden through a “carryover.”

Page 17 of the tax returns show “Capital Gains and Losses” for “WILLIAM J CLINTON & HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON.”

The Clintons reported a “Long-term capital loss carryover” of $699,540.

Thus, the Clintons reported a “Net long-term capital gain or (loss)” of “-699,540.”

Limbaugh: Journalism Has Adopted a Special Kind of Stupid to Be This Acquiescent to the State

Every once in a while Rush Limbaugh has a monologue that is something really special and this, while a long read, is one of the best explanations of what is wrong with journalism that one may ever see. It is worth your time.

(Full Disclosure – This writer has been quoted in a Rush Limbaugh Biography)

Rush Limbaugh:

Have you ever noticed, ladies and gentlemen, how the… You know, I call them the left, the liberals, the Democrats, whatever. Have you ever noticed how they claim they love Mother Nature?  They just love it!  They don’t like humanity much because humanity destroys Mother Nature.  But they love Mother Nature.  But then when Mother Nature does something nasty, like give us a drought or give us a hurricane, it’s not Mother Nature’s fault.  No!  It’s our fault….

FedGov Spends $1.5 Billion Per Year on Public Relations

ATR:

The federal government spends $1.5 billion annually on public relations — $1 billion on PR and advertising contracts, and another $500 million on salaries for 5,000 federal PR employees, according to a report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

The report, requested by Senate Budget Committee Chairman Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) found that advertising and PR contracts have ranged from $800 million and $1.3 billion annually over the past decade. As the report notes, the government spends taxpayer dollars on numerous advertising platforms:

“In addition to more traditional public relations media such as television and radio, agencies are expanding the use of various media technologies to facilitate communication with the public. These media technologies include e-mail, websites, blogs, text messaging, and social media such as Facebook.”

In addition, the federal government has close to 5,000 public relations employees with a combined salary of close to $500 million per year averaged over the past decade. These employees have a median salary of about $90,000 in 2014. According to the Census Bureau, the average median household income in 2014 was $53,657.

As the report notes, it is difficult to definitively determine the full amount spent on advertising because government contracts may encompass multiple activities. Many contracts were not included in GAO’s scope that may or may not have involved PR and advertising. As the report notes:

“We found 55 contract actions with the term “public relations” and 161 contract actions with the term “advertising” that had not been coded under the codes we included in our scope.”

Hillary Blasts Well Fargo, but Guess Who It Donates to Most?

You guessed it…

Grabien:

Hillary Clinton blasted Wells Fargo Monday over the scandal that led to thousands of employees being terminated for collecting fees on fake accounts.

Clinton, however, is now being revealed as Wells Fargo’s top recipient of campaign donations, outpacing the next presidential candidate — Jeb Bush — by more than 300 percent. In all, Wells Fargo has contributed $258,351 to Clinton’s campaign.

The second highest recipient is Bernie Sanders’ Senate campaign, which collected $61,043.

Of the latest scandal, Clinton said it shows that, “Eight years after a cowboy culture on Wall Street wrecked our economy, we are still seeing powerful bankers playing fast and loose with the law.”

“It is outrageous,” she said.

Breitbart:

An employee of a jewelry store in Conroe, Texas, pulled an AK-47 from behind the counter to stop four would-be armed robbers. One of the armed robbers opened fire and multiple employees returned fire, killing the suspect.

Jeffery Turner, Jr., owner of Jeff’s Jewelry Store in Conroe, told police that four men entered his store and demanded jewelry, purses and other items. At least one of the robbers displayed a firearm, according to Montgomery County Police Reporter’s Scott Engle. One of Turner’s employees responded by pulling an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle from behind the counter. The gunman fired at the store employees and a firefight ensued. At least three employees were said to have fired weapons at the robbery suspects.

VA Suicide Hotline Bill Passes Unanimously Through House, Senate Democrat Leadership Crushes It

Democrats have opposed serious VA legislation, they have also voted to take money away from veteran’s services.

Daily Caller:

A bill to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs suicide hotline sailed unanimously through the House last week, until Senate Democratic Minority Leader Harry Reid blocked the legislation and refused to let it come to the floor for a voice vote.

The House approved GOP Rep. David Young’s bill last Monday by a vote of 357-0. Young introduced the legislation after hearing numerous complaints from constituents that the Veterans Crisis Line, designed to provide support for veterans feeling suicidal, simply failed to answer emails or calls. The bipartisan bill passed the House without a hitch and Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar teamed up with GOP Sen. John Thune to move the legislation through the Senate. Both majority and minority staff on the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs cleared the bill, Meg Baglien, communications director for Young, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

But a nod from the committee didn’t prevent Reid from stopping the bill in its tracks, prompting GOP Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to castigate him.

Every week Hillary and her friends in the elite media will invent a new distraction

Hillary has to keep the media narrative off her record, her corruption and the issues such as Common Core, corruption, taxes, regulation, mass immigration/colonization, Obamacare etc. They will pull a new distraction out of a hat every week from now until the election.
